EEAA Leaders Forum 2011

The leadership of the Exhibition and Events Industry gathered on 4-5 August 2011 for a most productive forum looking at the future of our industry.

Around 40 people attended and we explored the major issues impacting on the future of events. A major focus of discussions was on the impact technology is having in the way customers engage with products and brands and the speed with which technology is being applied.

There was strong view that the power of exhibitions will continue because of their capacity to bring people face-to-face. However, the challenge for organisers, suppliers and venues is how best to create an event that captures and engages its audience. We heard that technology should be used to enrich the event experience

In the future, visitors to our shows will have the capacity to customise their visit experience by using their hand-held technology devices to create the kind of itinerary and encounters that suit their interests and needs.

Futurist, Morris Miselowski facilitated the entire program and promoted the concept of collaboration through co-creation. He talked about the immense power of “technology in our pockets” and said that over the next 10 years we will experience 100 years of change.

There was extensive discussion about more risk sharing between organisers and venues, more seamless delivery between venues, organisers and suppliers and more connectivity with technology being led by customers rather than venues.

Outlined below are some of the key take outs from our some of our leaders:

“The forum reinforced the need for our team to evolve and adapt,” Harvey Stockbridge, Australian Exhibitions & Events

“Technology and the new tools of connectivity are perfectly placed to enhance and extend the exhibition experience. As organisers we need to embrace these opportunities quickly not only for our visitors and exhibitors – but also to remain at the forefront of effective marketing and selling solutions,” Dona White, North Port Events NZ

“There was a great deal of energy, inspiration and motivation that develops out of a room full of passionate , smart, business leaders getting together to discuss their hopes, fears and vision for the future. As well as insight to new technologies, my biggest take-out was a renewed huge boost of energy,” Jodie Richmond, Exhibition & Trade Fairs

Thank you to all our Event Sponsors for the generosity and ongoing support.
